Bell Brewery Buys Land in Escanaba
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Escanaba City Council has approved the sale of a 3 acre parcel of property to Bell’s Brewery, Incorporated, in the amount of $30,000 for the construction of a brewery and bottling manufacturing facility.
Company founder and president Larry Bell met with the Escanaba City Council today in a special session to discuss the purchase of the lot in the city’s Whitetail Industrial Park. The property will be the future home of Upper Hand Brewery, a division of Bell’s Brewery which is based out of downstate Comstock.
The new facility will feature a variety of beers to be brewed and bottled for distribution across the U.P. as well as adjacent northern states. The project is part of a company-wide $15 million capital improvement investment and will employ five people.
The cost of construction and equipment is estimated at $2.5 million and will take about 18 months to complete. Bell says local contractors and suppliers will be used to construct the brewery and new recipes have already been brewed at Bell’s original brewery in Kalamazoo.
