MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Weather problems are continuing today in the western portions of the Upper Peninsula.
Gogebic County officials including the Road Commission, the Sheriff’s Department and Ironwood Public Safety have declared a snow emergency in their area. The snow emergency for Gogebic County is in effect until 6 a.m. tomorrow.
The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Warning for Gogebic County until midnight tonight with anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of snow expected by tomorrow morning.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says M-28 has been shut down in the City of Wakefield due to continued flooding. Crews are pumping water from Sunday Lake across the highway in order to keep water levels down and to keep US-2 open. The detour route is posted on US-45 & M-28.
M-DOT says the closure will likely be in place a few days.
