Wolf Hunt Legislation Headed to Snyder’s Desk
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A bill that would allow the state Natural Resources Commission to designate game species and set hunts for those species including wolves, is on its way to Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk after the state House of Representatives gave final approval to the measure yesterday.
Specifically, the bill grants the authority to designate an animal as a game species eligible for hunting to the Natural Resources Commission. Currently only the State Legislature has that authority.
The effect of a referendum effort which would block a wolf hunting season would be rendered moot by the bill, however opponents of it could still organize a new referendum to stop the new legislation.
The Governor is expected to sign the bill into law. The State Senate approved the same measure last week.
