MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Michigan Department of Transportation is starting a roadway reconstruction project tomorrow in Houghton County.
The project will restore about 1 mile of M-26 in downtown Laurium, from Isle Royale Street to Boundary Street, and on Osceola Street from M-26 to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.
The project will include recreating historic concrete pavement, installing sidewalks and lighting, and improving underground water main and drainage. This work will require a closure to through-traffic and a detour in two phases.
During Phase 1, northbound M-26 traffic will detour on Isle Royale Street and Third Street back to M-26. During Phase 2, M-26 traffic will detour on Lake Linden Avenue and US-41 back to M-26.
The project is expected to wrap up by October 31.
