DNR Holding First Public Meeting on MI Forest Management Plans

    Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The Department of Natural Resources is holding the first of three meetings in the U.P. today to gather further input on State Forest Management Plans.

    The meetings are open to stakeholder groups and others interested in discussing comments received during the public review of the plans.

    The DNR developed the draft plans which cover the eastern and western U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula. Topics covered at the meetings include strategic forest direction, timber management, wildlife habitat and recreational trails.

    Today’s meetings will begin at 1 p.m. at the Comfort Inn in Newberry. Other sessions are planned for tomorrow at the Ramada Inn in Marquette and Thursday at the Best Western Baraga Lakeside Inn in Baraga.
