Hearing on IRS Targeting of Conservative Groups

Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Two congressmen from Michigan have announced that the Ways and Means committee in Washington will hold a hearing on the IRS practice of targeting certain conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.

The announcement was made by Republican Congressman Dave Camp of Midland, Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means, and Democratic Congressman Sander Levin of Royal Oak, Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Committee. The hearing will take place this Friday in Washington.

In the meantime, U.S. Senator Carl Levin of Michigan has announced in a statement that the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations will look into IRS targeting of Tea Party and other conservative groups for tax auditing.

The IRS has apologized for what it called “inappropriate” targeting. Levin, along with U.S. Senator John McCain says the subcommittee had previously scheduled a hearing on non-profit groups in June. They’ve decided to also look into the IRS actions.
