Fire Involving Asbestos at Presque Isle Power Plant

Great Lakes Radio News UpdatesMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Marquette City Firefighters responded to the WE Energies Presque Isle Power Plant last night on a report of a fire on the roof of one of the power plant’s buildings.

The fire was called in around 9:15 last night and fire fighters arriving on the scene called in additional resources including the Marquette Township Fire Department and County Rescue 131.

The fire was contained to a diesel exhaust ventilator that was being used to ventilate building number 4 during an asbestos abatement project.  Firefighters who may have been exposed to the asbestos were decontaminated at the scene.

Firefighters cleared the scene about two hours later and no injuries were reported.
