Increase in Per-Pupil Funding for MI Schools Next Year

    Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) –Michigan schools would see a per-pupil increase of at least $5 in Fiscal Year 2014, under a School Aid budget approved by a conference committee yesterday.

    The School Aid Conference Committee voted 4-1 in favor of a $13.3 billion funding report to which lawmakers added an amendment worth $6 million to ensure that all schools receive a per-pupil increase of at least $5.

    Overall, the approved conference report for school aid amounts to $13.355 billion in gross school aid funding. That’s an increase of about 3.2 percent from the current fiscal year.

    The conference report also increases schools’ foundation allowances by a total of $43.3 million, equaling a jump of anywhere from $30 per pupil to $60 per pupil.
