Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) Former Congressman Mark Schauer of Battle Creek has made it official today, he is running for Governor of Michigan.

Schauer released a statement today declaring that he is actively seeking the Democratic Gubernatorial nomination. He will also travel to Mackinac Island tomorrow to make an announcement in person during the Detroit Chamber of Commerce Leadership Conference.

The Democratic field of nominees has been cleared, which means Schauer will not likely have to worry about a primary and can immediately focus his campaign on challenging incumbent Republican Governor Rick Snyder.  A recent survey by Lansing-based polling firm EPIC/MRA found Schauer statistically tied with Snyder among Michigan voters with total Schauer support at 39 percent and total Snyder support at 39 percent.
