Marquette City Commission Approves Budget
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette City Commission has approved their operating budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
The Commission approved the city budget and general appropriations act at their regular meeting last night by a vote of 6 to 1, with Commissioner Jason Schneider dissenting.
Schneider said although the budget process had been fair and city staff did exemplary work throughout the planning cycle, he felt he could not support the budget due to the priorities of the city as outlined in the document.
The vote to approve the $26.3 million budget came after a public hearing. Commissioners say the budget, which is for a period of 15 months in accordance with the city’s new charter, is balanced and contains no tax increases for city residents.
