MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Preliminary reports from the Michigan State Police show that traffic fatalities over the 2013 Memorial Day holiday weekend dropped substantially compared to 2012.
Five people were reportedly killed in four separate traffic crashes this year, compared to ten people who died during the 2012 holiday weekend. Two of the five known people killed were wearing seatbelts.
Alcohol use was not a factor in two of the crashes, but it is not yet known if drinking and driving was a factor in the other two fatal crashes.
