Norway Township Man Drowns in Lawnmower Accident

Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police at the Iron Mountain Post report an accidental drowning at a residence yesterday in Dickinson County’s Norway Township.

A 911 call was received around 4:15 p.m. central time of a report of a man trapped under a riding lawnmower in the Menominee River. Troopers say 71-year-old Melvin Miner was operating the lawnmower along the river bank when it slipped off the bank and pinned him under it in about two feet of water.

Authorities attempted to revive Miner, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
