Construction Starts Across the U.P.

Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Orange barrel season gets in full swing today across the U.P.

M-DOT is launching several construction projects today. In Baraga County, the repaving of shoulders and installing of curbs and gutters begins at the M-28/US-141 intersection in Covington. The project will be completed on August 9.

In Houghton County, eight-tenths of a mile of M-26 from South Range to Cemetery Road will be rebuilt and curves will be realigned. That project will be completed by September 18.

In Chippewa County, 11.1 miles of M-28 from west of Raco to M-221 will be rebuilt and wider shoulders and sign upgrades will be made. The project will be wrapped up by October 11.

And in Ontonagon County, repair work will begin on the three bridges on M-64. The deck of the Duck Creek bridge will be replaced. Joints will be replaced and structural steel will be repainted on both the Mineral River bridge and the Potato River bridge. The bridge projects will be completed by September 27.
