New Poll Shows Snyder Behind Democratic Candidate in Gubernatorial Race
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer holds an edge over incumbent Republican Governor Rick Snyder, according to a new poll.
The survey by North Carolina-based Public Policy Polling found that 42 percent of likely voters back Schauer and 38 percent support Snyder. Pollster Tom Jansen says Schauer’s initial lead has a lot more to do with Snyder than it does with him. Schauer’s name recognition is at just 38 percent.
Meanwhile, Snyder “continues to be one of the country’s most unpopular governors,” with only 40 percent approving of him compared to 52 percent who disapprove. The survey also shows that Snyder’s role in passing Right to Work legislation continues to be a problem for him. Just 40 percent of voters support that law, while 50 percent oppose it.
PPP’s automated survey of 697 Michigan voters was conducted between May 30 and June 2. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percent.
