Republican Governor Rick Snyder

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Prominent tea party activists in Michigan are calling on conservatives to “sit out” the Republican effort to re-elect Governor Rick Snyder, because the governor has pushed hard for the Obamacare-related expansion of Medicaid in Michigan.

The governor recently announced he would ask Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to come to the state to discuss the Medicaid expansion proposal.

Tea party members have been angered by the governor’s position, prompting the letter they sent out yesterday, which said the expansion legislation is like trying to (quote) “strong arm moderate voices (in the Republican party) into passing a bankrupt Michigan on to our children.”

Twenty-five activists signed the letter, and none said they could support the governor’s re-election next year. In fact, reports say that they’re hoping to prompt another Republican to run against the governor in the primary, or encourage the governor not to run for re-election.
