U.P. Great Lakes Radio NewsMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A group of local construction workers is protesting the hiring policies in place at a construction site in Marquette Township.

Protesters gathered today to picket along US-41 near Brickyard Road with signs supporting local workers.  Organizer John Kleiber explained that the construction of the new store, ULTA Beauty, located next to TJ Maxx and PetSmart, is being done by workers hired from other cities and states with lower standard wages.

He added that the protest isn’t about union or non-union jobs, it’s about the local economy.  Kleiber said by not investing in local workers, they are taking money out of local consumers’ pockets.

According to reports, the group is planning to picket the site over the next several days.
