FinnFest Tries, Falls Short, Of Setting World Record

Filed under: U.P. News Updates |

U.P._News_UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Roughly 800 people turned out Saturday morning, as organizers of FinnFest USA 2013 in Houghton County attempted to set a new world record for the most people engaging in Nordic walking at the same time.

Unfortunately, that was more than 200 short of the number needed.

The exercise, invented in Finland, described as cross country skiing without the skis, currently has a world record of 1,026 Nordic walkers held by Sweden.

FinnFest’s David Maki says they may still have set a North American record.

The walk began at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock and ended at Kestner Waterfront Park.
