Mich Unemployment Rises
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates rose in 14 of Michigan’s 17 major labor market areas in May, according to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
Total employment and labor force levels increased seasonally in all 17 regions over the month but unemployment increases throughout much of the state reflected a larger-than-normal influx of workers into local labor markets.
The Ann Arbor area had the state’s lowest jobless rate last month at 5.9 percent while Northeast Lower Michigan had the highest at 10.8 percent.
The U.P. rate for the period was 9.5 percent while the state rate was 8.4 percent. Marquette County had a rate of 8.6 percent.
