MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An Upper Peninsula lawmaker wants gun manufacturers to move their operations into Michigan.

State Senator Tom Casperson has introduced legislation that would set up Arms Related Manufacturing zones across the state. It would offer tax incentives to attract firearms-makers to Michigan, similar to other efforts that targeted tool-and-die companies.

Casperson says he has already talked with several gun manufacturers about this possibility, including Colt and Stag.

The Escanaba Republican says that some other states are tightening their gun rules, making it tougher for these companies to do business there.

The bills were referred to the Senate Committee on Economic Development.
