Cliffs_Natural_Resources MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Cliffs Natural Resources says they have restarted their Wabush mining operations in Canada.  The mine was temporarily idled due to the forest fires in the region since June 28th.

The town of Wabush rescinded their emergency evacuation order and reduced the threat level. Cliffs called back workers yesterday and the mine is now fully operational.

During the evacuation, Cliffs employees protected the mining operation and worked with community authorities providing volunteer assistance and heavy equipment to create a firebreak for the town at a safe distance from the fire.

Cliffs employs nearly 500 people at its Wabush Scully mine.  The mine and plant are located in the town of Wabush in Labrador.
