4th of July Travel Period Begins
Great Lakes Radio wishes you safe travels over the holiday weekend.
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – While some Michiganders have gotten an early start, the official Fourth of July holiday travel period begins today.
According to AAA Michigan, nearly 1.4 million Michigan residents will travel at least 50 miles or more from home today through Sunday, July 7th. That’s down about 1 percent from last year.
However, Nancy Cain of AAA, says it’s not that big of a surprise since the travel period is one day shorter than a year ago.
The survey also found that 87 percent of Michiganders will travel by vehicle this year with average gas prices of $3.44 per gallon, and many will head for campgrounds and resorts, while others stay with family and friends.
Five percent of Michigan travelers say they will fly, and 8 percent will go by bus or train to holiday destinations, according to the survey.
Nationally, AAA projects 40.8 million Americans will travel over the Fourth of July holiday period.
