MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Over protests from minority Democrats, the Michigan Senate today met and adjourned without taking up legislation to expand Medicaid in Michigan.

The proposal also is supported by Governor Rick Snyder and several business groups, along with welfare advocates and others. The Michigan Senate plans to meet next in a couple of weeks.

Senate Democrat Gretchen Whitmer criticized the Republican leaders, saying the GOP leaders (quote) “stand alone in their ignorance and obstinance.”

The proposal would add up to 400 thousand more people to Medicaid, in conjunction with the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare.”
