Manistique Chemical Spill ID’d and Contained

U.P._News_UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The investigation is continuing into the cause of a chemical spill in downtown Manistique, which was confirmed to be mercury.

A suspicious liquid was found at a common entrance to a downtown business’s upstairs apartment. The building’s owner contacted police after an employee of the business had told him about the spill.

The area was closed off until the Manistique Department of Public Works had constructed a containment barrier around the liquid.  No injuries were reported and health officials say there was no additional risk to the public.
