Senate Approves Medicaid Expansion in Michigan
MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A State Senate committee Wednesday approved a measure expanding Medicaid in Michigan.
The vote was 4-to-0 with one abstention. The proposal is linked with the federal Affordable Care Act, and affects up to 400,000 or more uninsured Michiganders. That bill could come up for a senate vote later this month.
In the meantime, the panel approved two rival plans on 3-2 party lines votes. One was a low-income health insurance fund that the state would have to pay for. The other would set up a privately run health insurance exchange.
All the bills now go to the full senate.
