Republicans Wrap Up Annual Conference On Mackinac Island

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan Republicans wrapped up their three-day Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference yesterday on Mackinac Island.

    During the event state GOP members set goals to maintain its legislative majority, win its first U.S. Senate seat in 20 years in 2014, and put Michigan in the corner of the Republican presidential candidate in 2016, which hasn’t happened since 1988.

    U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky won a presidential preference straw poll of attendees, with 36 percent of the total vote. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie finished second with 16 percent.

    Roughly 1,500 Republicans attended this year’s conference.
