Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette City Commission will be holding a special meeting and a public hearing later this month on the issue of truck traffic in the city.

The Commission voted last night at their regular meeting to schedule a public hearing to be held during a special meeting on October 30th to consider adopting a proposed city ordinance establishing and regulating heavy truck traffic within the city limits.

The proposed ordinance would prohibit commercial truck traffic for vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds on roadways not designated as trucking routes, with exceptions for fire, emergency, detoured, municipal and other government and road construction vehicles.

The Commission voted 5-to-1 to hold the meeting and public hearing with commissioner Don Ryan casting the lone dissenting vote and Commissioner Jason Schneider recusing himself from the vote.
