Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Senator Tom Casperson testified yesterday in Washington, D.C. in front of the Endangered Species Act Congressional Working Group.

The group has been gathering testimony from groups and interests from across the country to consider how the Act could be altered to better serve states.

The Escanaba Republican said both residents and natural resources have been significantly and adversely impacted by unreasonable restrictions in the Act.

Casperson added that while the law is worthwhile, it has been used for decades by those looking to limit use of the natural resources and land-based industries, especially in the U.P.

He said the law needs more balance and management on the local or state level and has to be stopped being abused as a tool by those with an environmental agenda to stop balanced and healthy management and development.
