Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A rate increase is on the way for customers of the Marquette Board of Light and Power.

Following a 6-1 vote last night by the Marquette City Commission to approve a proposed increase by the BLP, customers will see the first phase of an overall 25% increase starting in 30 days.

The increase will be spread over the next 3 years.  The lone dissenting vote was cast by Commissioner Sarah Cambensy.

The BLP says the increase is necessary to fund facilities and service upgrades.
