Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates in January rose in all of the state’s 17 major labor market areas.

State officials say total employment declined in most regions over the month.

In January, 12 of the state’s 17 major regions had unemployment rates at or below the national rate of 5.3 percent.

The U.P. rate for the period was 6.7 percent while the state rate was 5.1 percent. Marquette County had a rate of 5.4 percent.
