Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) –  Sewer and water rates in the City of Ishpeming are increasing effective immediately.

The Ishpeming City Council voted unanimously yesterday to increase rates for both utilities in an effort to generate revenue for repair to the current water and sewer systems that are old and out of date.

According to reports, a recent study found the services are losing over $500,000 a year due to increased system maintenance expenses and decreased customer revenue.

Also at the meeting, the council voted to decrease city garbage pick up fees by $5, and approved a balanced operating budget for the year.
