Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) –  An Upper Michigan man has died after a fall from the top of Miners Falls at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Alger County.

24-year-old Franklin Sade of Norway, Michigan, died at Munising Memorial Hospital as a result his injuries.

The apparent accident occurred yesterday around 2:30 a.m. when Sade and a companion, Jordan McGuire, were camping near the top of Miners Falls. Sade was obtaining campfire wood when the fall occurred.

After the fall, McGuire called 9-1-1 once he reached a location with cell service.  Steep and rough terrain along with inclement weather conditions contributed to the difficulty of the rescue.

Acting Chief Ranger Bill Smith noted there are no established campsites in or around the Miners Falls area.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident. An autopsy will take place at Marquette General Hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
