Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A long time member of Marquette County’s Law Enforcement community has announced his retirement.

Marquette County Sheriff Michael Lovelace says he will be retiring from the post early next year.

The Marquette County clerk’s office says Sheriff Lovelace intends to leave office on January 31st, 2014.

The next election for sheriff is not scheduled until 2016, so a special election to fill the balance of Lovelace’s term will be on the 2014 ballot.

A temporary replacement for Lovelace will be named soon to serve in the position until that election.

Sheriff Lovelace was elected to the position in 1996.
