Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Northern Michigan University has announced that the Dr. John English family has donated 142 acres of land in Chocolay Township to the NMU Foundation.

The family’s acreage lies south of M-28, east of Kawbawgam Road and adjacent to state forest land.

English and his family have a long history with NMU and he spent four decades as an internal medicine practitioner at Marquette General before retiring in 2003.

He also served on Northern’s pre-medical program advisory committee.  English says the land creates opportunities for the university for environmental research and other potential projects, and he hopes that several additional projects will be considered in the future.
