Fire Reported At Empire Mine In Marquette County

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Firefighters responded to a fire at the Empire Mine in western Marquette County this morning.

The fire was reported in the conveyor belts of the limestone feeding system at the Palmer operation just before 6:00 a.m.

Employees were evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews from Ishpeming, Richmond and Marquette Townships and the City of Negaunee were called to the scene.

The fire has been contained and the investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

The fire has resulted in a temporary shutdown of operations at the Empire.
