Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Marquette Area Public Schools will be realigning the district’s elementary schools beginning in the 2014-15 school year.
The MAPS Board of Education voted 5-to-1 last night to approve the realignment plan. The plan re-purposes the Graveraet building into a K-5 elementary school.
It also adjusts grade levels at the Cherry Creek, Sandy Knoll and Superior Hills schools, creating a total of four K-5 elementary schools in the district.
The plan includes a one-time cost of $810,000, and an additional $280,000 annual cost to the district per year.
School Board member Laura Songer cast the lone “no” vote.
