Investigation Continues Into Marquette County Mine Fire

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The investigation is continuing into the cause of a fire at the Empire Mine in western Marquette County.

The fire was reported in the conveyor belts of the limestone feeding system at the Palmer operation just before 6:00 a.m. yesterday.

Employees were evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews from Ishpeming, Richmond and Marquette Townships and the City of Negaunee were called to the scene.

The fire resulted in a temporary shutdown of operations at the Empire.
