Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Natural Resources officials expect to release preliminary results of the just-completed Michigan firearms deer hunting season later this week or next.

The 16-day firearms season ended on Saturday, November 30th. D-N-R Deer and Elk officials expect the statewide take to be about the same as last year.

Two full weekends, including the last three days of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, should have created more activity in the final days this year and help make up for a slow start in the first few days.

Expectations are that he deer take will be down in the U-P, up in the Northern Lower Peninsula, and about equal to last year in Southern Lower Michigan.
