Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Marquette city officials are beginning the process of deciding the future of the soon to be empty UP Health System-Marquette hospital.

Duke LifePoint is breaking ground on their new hospital on Baraga Avenue later this year, and as a result, the current facility on West College Avenue will cease to exist.

At a work session yesterday evening, the Marquette City Commission discussed the re–purposing of the hospital buildings.

Duke LifePoint also had representatives from Tennessee in attendance to talk about possible options.

DLP and the City Commission say they will be looking to the public for help as they move forward.

The new hospital is set to open in the fall of 2018.
