U.P. Communities To Receive Funds For Recreational Projects

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund board has recommended to the Michigan Legislature 76 recreation development projects and land acquisitions totaling $27.6 million be funded next year.

    Some of the U.P. funding includes $1.44 million to the City of Marquette for the Clark Lambros Beach Park project for acquisition of about 9 acres of land with 1500 feet of Lake Superior frontage and 500 feet of shoreline on the Dead River.

    Marquette will also receive $296,000 for new universal access restrooms for Presque Isle, Harlow and Williams Parks.

    In Republic Township, $172,200 will go to developing a campground along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail at Munson Park.

    Also, $394,100 is going to the City of Munising for the development of a new mountain bike trailhead at Munising Bay and improvements to the Munising Tourist Park Campground. The recommendations will be reviewed by the Legislature and then be forwarded to the Governor for approval.
