Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Bipartisan legislation developed by 38th District State Senator Tom Casperson of Escanaba and 109th District State Representative Jon Kivela of Marquette creating a new Central U.P. zone in the Next Michigan Development Act is headed to the Governor’s desk for his signature.

The act, part of the “Aerotropolis” legislation of 2010, provides for the creation of up to five Next Michigan Development Corporations, which are entities that encourage economic development and investment, job creation and retention, and economic growth.

The bills passed through both the House and Senate late last week.

Once given final approval by the governor, there will officially be a new zone in the Next Michigan Development program representing Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
