Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police at the Munising detachment say a fire destroyed a mobile home on Johnson Road in Van Meer around 1:30 yesterday morning.

Five people, 30-year-old Gaylord McArthur, 24-year-old Barbara McGee, 6-year-old Brian McGee, 4-year-old Arianna McArthur and 3-year-old Alia McArthur, were injured in the fire.

Troopers say Gaylord McArthur ran back into the burning building to save 4-year-old Arianna.  He was able to throw her through a window into the snow and also got out that way himself.

All five were taken to Munising Memorial and Gaylord and Arianna McArthur were later transferred to Marquette General for treatment.

A fire relief fund has been set up at the Munising Community Credit Union and community donations to assist the family can be dropped off at the Alger County Sheriff’s Department at 101 East Varnum Street.

State Police say the fire is believed to have started near a wood-burning stove.
