Fatal Snowmobile Accident In Houghton County

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – One person was killed in a weekend snowmobile crash in Houghton County.

Authorities were called to Trail Number 8 in Duncan Township near Kenton just after 8:00 o’clock last night.

The accident occurred when two Illinois men were westbound on their snowmobiles on the trail and a deer an out in front of them, causing them to collide.

50-year-old Jeffrey Vandeneykel was killed in the crash, while the second man, whose name has not been released, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The second man is currently being treated at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse.

His condition is unknown at this time.

The investigation into the accident is continuing.
