Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan Tech University in Houghton has topped a list of the Ten Snowiest Colleges in the United States compiled by AccuWeather.com.

The list is based on the average snowfall of each school. To no one’s surprise, Tech tops the list by a large margin.

The campus averages about 200 inches a year.

However, there have been many years in which the school has exceeded this; in the winter of 2000-2001, the university received nearly 303 inches of snow.

Number two on the list is Syracuse University in upstate New York with an annual snowfall of 124 inches.

There’s only one other Michigan college on the list and surprisingly it’s in the southern lower Peninsula.

Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo checks in at number eight.

Neither Northern Michigan University in Marquette nor Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie made the list.
