Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Congressman Dan Benishek says he is pleased with the release of additional heating assistance for low-income families in the U.P. and Northern Lower Michigan who are being impacted by the current propane shortage.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is making $454 million available nationally, including $22 million in Michigan, to support the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which offers home energy assistance for low-income households.
Benishek says the help is welcome news for many families in his district who are struggling with high heat bills and a shortage of propane.
Over 600,000 households are served in Michigan by this program.
Benishek is encouraging anyone who needs help to contact his office for additional resources.
