Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Marquette County man has plead guilty to a weapons charge in connection with the accidental shooting of a dog while hunting within the city limits of Ishpeming.

62-year-old William Lawrence Huot of Ishpeming was charged with careless discharge of a firearm with property damage over $50 for fatally shooting a pet weimaraner he mistook for a coyote on January 12th.

The dog and it’s owners were out on a walk when Huot shot the dog, which was wearing a reflective yellow vest and orange collar.

Huot told authorities he could not see the vest or collar due to low light conditions.

He faces up to one year in jail and/or a $500 fine on the misdemeanor charge and will be sentenced in early March.
