Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Department of Natural Resources says a total of nine hunting incidents occurred in 2013.

Of the total reported, only one was reported in the U.P. while the others were reported in Lower Michigan.

Of the incidents reported in 2013, there was one fatality, which occurred on opening day of firearm deer season in downstate Montmorency County when a 52-year-old man hunting from a tree stand sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Six of the nine incidents involved self-inflicted firearm injuries.

D-N-R officials say the total number is lower than 2012, when 15 hunting incidents, including one fatality, were reported.
