One Killed In Luce County Snowmobile Accident

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Luce County Sheriff’s Department is reporting a head-on collision involving two snowmobiles that claimed the life of one person and seriously injured another.

Reports say 43-year-old Timothy Hearld of Larwill, Indiana was killed in the accident yesterday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. on Trail #9 in northern Luce County.

Deputies say the accident happened on a corner of the trail when Hearld’s machine collided head-on with an oncoming snowmobile operated by 40-year-old Joseph Brandel of Milford, Ohio.

Brandel was airlifted to a medical care facility in Ohio for further treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Hearld was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation but officials report that alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
