Houghton County Authorities Investigate Death

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Police in the Copper Country are continuing their investigation into a fire last Friday evening that resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man.

Officers were called to a home in Hancock after a woman told them her boyfriend had assaulted her.

The woman said she had taken a gun away from him and that he had more weapons in the house.

Officers from the Hancock and Houghton Police Departments entered the home and found the man on the floor of the basement, where he had started a fire.

He later died at Portage Health.

The woman was treated for injuries and released.  Police have not released the names or ages of the people involved.
