MI Unemployment Numbers Show Record Drop

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan’s unemployment rate in January fell by half a point to 7.8 percent, the lowest unemployment rate in the state since May 2008.

According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, the January jobless rate was one and one-tenth percent below the state’s January 2013 rate of 8.9 percent.

The state rate in January was one point two percent above the national rate of 6.6 percent.

Michigan’s 2013 annual unemployment rate was revised slightly upward by one-tenth of a percentage point to 8.8 percent which marked the fourth consecutive year that the state’s annual unemployment rate decreased.
