Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has launched a probe of a propane company and its affiliate following consumer complaints of excessive pricing.

A petition for subpoenas was filed in downstate Saginaw County Circuit Court yesterday.

Schuette’s office has received over 60 complaints against Ferrellgas and it’s affiliate Best Propane, including allegations of excessive pricing and misrepresenting the price that consumers would have to pay for propane.

Schuette says evidence suggests that while the statewide average retail price for propane went as high as $3.76 in early February, some Ferrellgas customers were apparently charged more than $8.00 per gallon.

If consumers have evidence of a retailer engaged in similar behavior, they are encouraged to contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.
